New mom gifts

Tis the season!! We signed up to bring some meals this week for some new parents and I hit up my dear sister and new(ish) mom Kirsten for some advice on what to bring.

For dinner I made:

Corn and potato chowder.   http://www.dwellonjoy.com/2012/02/roasted-corn-potato-chowder.html
Buns (Trader Joes finish baking buns)
Lemon bars
Banana muffins ( for next day's breakfast).  http://www.flowerpatchfarmgirl.com/2013/12/decadent-fresh-banana-muffins.html

For Mom I brought:

A sizeable collection of magazines (because I'm a hoarder)
Home made sugar scrub.
Chocolate
Nice soap (Trader Joes lavendar and Anthropogie volcano are my favorites!)

Sugar scrub directions

- Turbinato sugar
- Coconut Oil
- Lime essential oil
- Lemon essential oil

Start with about 2 parts sugar to 1 part oil, and add more oil as needed.
Add a few drops of each essential oil to each jar you make.

Mozerella Sticks

Well this was a major fail!  We just scooped up the cheese and put it on crackers instead. Next time I might try sticking them in the freezer for a few minutes first. (Also I just bought the sticks so they weren't fully refrigerated.)

If you want to try for yourself...
Directions:

Cut string cheese into bite sized pieces
Dip in skim milk
Roll in bread crumbs ( I used panko)
**freeze**
Cook at 350 degrees for ten minutes

Phoenix, AZ Trip I

Last weekend I was scheduled to go to Colorado, but at the last minute we ended up dropping our passengers off and heading to Pheonix instead. My brother-in-law's sweet sister and her family live a little ways a way and were so sweet to come pick me up on such short notice! I loved seeing their beautiful home that I get glimpses of on Instagram and playing with their adorable kids. Earlier that week I had been dreading this particular trip and just prayed that God would give me the strength to get through it, and instead He surprised me with such a fun and refreshing time with family I love!

Call me Elizabeth

Most guys I fly with are usually pretty talkative. And although sometimes on long trips you just want to be quiet for a while, other times it feels a bit more like this scene:

Austin, TX Trip I

This week was the first time I finally got to explore Austin! I have been wanting to come down here for forever, and while I've seen the airport multiple times, we never had any overnights. Of course, the week I'm finally here it's a high of 45*F and disgustingly drizzly.

The first night we ate at a lovely ** Italian restaurant that I completely forgot the name of. We had oysters and some sort of bruschetta that was very good. It would be a great date night restaraunt and when I get the name maybe you can enjoy it too!

**Vespaio Ristorante

The next day I did some morning yoga (part of my New Years resolutions and my win for the day!) and then we grabbed some delicious sushi at the Pirahna Killer. Once I  found parking (my biggest fear in city exploration is parking....second to one way streets), I walked up Congress St. to the Capital Building and poked my nose inside a little. It was beautiful, bustling and big. But I wasnt really sure what to do or where to go once I got inside so I headed to the State History Museum.

It was so interesting to learn about the Indians that had lived in our area and how all the exploration and history had impacted the culture here. But my favorite part was the WASP exhibit upstairs.

I felt envious of all those brave women that got to study, live, and fly together. An all girls flight school- jealous! But they had some crazy stories and hardships to overcome and I wonder if I would have had the same moxie they had to make it. I had to laugh when I learned that the government made their airfield restricted airspace because the male cadets kept making "emergency landings" so they could meet the girls. The ladies consequently nicknamed it 'Cochran's Convent'.

That evening we headed to Foreign and Domestic for dinner. I honestly had no idea what I ordered and we were laughing the whole time because they just kept bringing out food. It was very different then anything I've ever had but very tasty!

This morning I fought the inclination to hide under my covers all morning and instead braved the drizzle and headed to South Congress Street. Unfortunately, most the shops hadn't opened yet so I grabbed a chai tea at Joes and a Michael Jackson cupcake at Hey Cupcake! (Super cute- totally worth the trip.) and headed back. I was supposed to share the cupcake with My Man later, but I got hungry so I had it for breakfast instead. Fail.

This afternoon I finally watched the Bachelor Premier.... It's gonna be a crazy season!!! And then I studied for my CFI (Certified Flight Instructor). I had hoped to take the test this week but that's not gonna happen. Hopefully next week!!

My Return to the Blogosphere

Hi, I'm Stephanie. I've been married to My Sweetie for a year now. We moved from sunny SoCal to East Texas where we are pilots (it's ridiculously cheaper here!!). This is my place for sharing our adventures, misadventures, recipes, home improvement projects and fails. I hope you join me on my journey of learning to be a wife, apartment decorator, pilot, cook, gardener and anything else life throws our way!
